Gojislav Kalapac-Goja: Circular Motion

And with what sort and quality of adherence?
This may have been the question the author asked himself when the main part of the thing was already emerged and gone. But instead of trying for an answer, he continues with the same preoccupation, the same tempo and energy that makes such questions, under the hat of today’s modernisms, an antiquated excess. Thoroughly transported, in the ambiance of his living room which he uses because it’s closest to hand, Kalapa¬ incorporates in his work various condenses that repel the questions of form and its applications in the matters of style and process. Equally distant from certain contents as from the ways of their presentation.

He brings before us the works that speak of their own non-exclusivity and openness. Of energy deployed in them and still emanating from them, without telling us about different arts and styles. Correlations with them emerge only as the fruit of independent work and materials, quantities and circumstances.

Free of the wish to create the work that might, even through the tinted glass of the window of Miroslav Kraljevic Gallery with a nasal AHA! be classified and settled into, Kalapac uses almost anything. Free forms emerge, plausible, open, that can accept and in their fast circular motion exude every ingredient or a whole. They create a space from which things seep, mixed with themselves and emotions of a kind, which are here to keep the cohesion.

We find them in the titles as well. Pre-wash, Prayer Before the Calling, Purple Cadillac, Apocallyptica, Incubation, Terra X, Beginning of the Action. They are an ensemble of broken connections, a by-product of the contemporary circulation of people and things that, free of the task of connecting and gathering leaps over the time and reality of space.

Kalapac brings us the first postulate of Energism that says: Use whatever you want, do it as you will – as long as the result is direct, aggressive and active in attitude. And every attitude is already laden with energy, so that Energism is one that is light, unburdened, which denies all barriers of style and content. For it, there are no limitations. Only the present in which “the sky is high and the emperor far away”.
