‘The Dream Net’ is an Internet adaptation of the ambiance that Kata Mijatovic executed using textual descriptions of her dreams at the exhibition K+Z in Fine Arts Gallery, Slavonski Brod, 2001. The on-line texts are complemented with visual materials according to the artist’s code. The possibility of hypertext linking is used to structure a network of dreams similar to a labyrinth. The work has no real beginning nor ending, navigation becomes vague and every further step leads deeper into the realm of unconsciousness.
The artist has dreamt all registered dreams ten years ago, at the beginning of the war and her public art career. For connoisseurs of Kata Mijatovic’s oeuvre this work unveils not only the roots of her inspiration, but also a fluid sphere of dreams where the overflowing of unconsciousness into the consciousness is defined as the artist’s most important motif.
The photographs used for the visualization of the dreams are by Zoran Pavelic, an artist in his own right.
