ON THE STATUS OF ALIENS AND MONSTERS

WORKSHOP/PROJECT on new media and art theory with the title ON THE STATUS OF ALIENS AND MONSTERS is a joint venture between the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna/Post Conceptual Art Practices, Prof. Marina Grzinic and the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, Multimedia department, Prof. Nicole Hewitt. The workshop/project will take part from 12 to 16 December 2007 in Zagreb, Croatia. The idea is to explore the city of Zagreb and to think through visual materials and theory about alien spaces in the city and individuals and groups as possible aliens. The idea is to question the figure of the alien or monster in processes of migration and mobility through visual and theoretical experiences.
The main project objective is to explore social spaces and architecture in Zagreb, and to exchange works and contacts in-between students. The workshop will be done in collaboration with the Galerija Miroslav Kraljevic and other partners; in the gallery the exhibition will take part. One of the venues of knowledge production will be the international symposium project on the topic of cyborgesia “KIBORGEZIJA” organized by prof. Hewitt.

Kiborgezija is a project bringing together significant aspects of science fiction and cyber culture and placing them in a context of social change accelerated by technology, mobility, post colonialism and globalization. The project brings together artists and theorists from the fields of architecture, literature, art, architecture, political science in an attempt to locate the monsters, aliens, migrants and refugees in the following key areas:
Political Utopias and Dystopias, The human and the post human , human rights and biotechnology, Female , monstrous, other, Futurist diaspora, Urban communities, architecture and teleportation
