12.04-25.04.2007
Tina Gverović’s exhibition at Galerija Miroslav Kraljević is part of the Radoslav Putar Award program, initiated and organized by the Institute for Contemporary Art, Zagreb. It follows the artist’s 6-week residency, during October and November, 2006, at ISCP, New York, where the artist stayed as the winner of the 2006 Award. Galerija Miroslav Kraljevic which, in one of its programmatic focuses is oriented exactly at production and presentation of works by younger artists, and their integration into the international context, has the role of co-producer and organizer of the Award winning artist solo exhibition.

THE VISIT
Similarly to the cycle /On first sight/, that she presented as canditate for the Radoslav Putar Award in 2006, the new work by Tina Gverovic – /The Visit/ (realised in collaboration with Ben Cain) could be interpreted as an imaginary journey. This time, instead of discovering
unknown and exotic territories, the journey’s destination is the ‘ordinary’ Zagreb neighborhood ‘Kvatrić’ — the immediate neighbourhood of Galerija Miroslav Kraljević, where the work is presented. This ‘nearness’, however, doesn’t make the journey less imaginary: although partially based on real places, locations that can be found on the map and people that can be encountered, the work is not concerned with documenting everyday life of a place and people who inhabit it. Rather, it is an investigation into the ways that reality and fiction, real and invented topograpphy, the past and the present, meet and intertwine, through a procedure of telling and visualizing stories.
The artist transforms the gallery into an environment — a scenography where, in various media (text, drawing, live performance) stories are played out and whose space is inhabited by ‘ghosts’ of people, places and events, in which, together with real visitors of the gallery, the ‘Visit’ is being realized and a planned or accidental encounter takes place.
The actress Asja Jovanović will perform at the event during the opening.
The project was realized in co-production of Galerija Miroslav Kraljevic and the Institue for Contemporary Art, Zagreb. The artist book by Tina Gverovic’, designed by Ben Cain and published by Galerija Miroslav Kraljevic forms an integral part of the project.
