Workshop: VIDEO AND EDITING

The workshop will introduce the participants to the basics of video and editing, focusing on the genre of documentary and format of TV feature. The workshop is led by Branko Vilus, member of RESTART, organization dealing with production, education, publishing, distribution and tecnical assistance in production and promotion of socially-engaged video and documentary film

The workshop will discuss the relation of the media towards ‘otherness’. Who are the ‘first’ and who are the ‘others’? How to deconstruct a text and how to construct the ‘other’ and the way he/she is positioned? Join us and find out!

WRITING ON THE „OTHER“ – workshop in journalist practice
tutors: Marko Jurčić (journalist and activist), Martina Topić (expert in political sciences)

The workshop is intended for journalist, students of journalism and all interested in the process of news formation. Through analysis, discussions and practical work, the workshop will seek to define principles of a non-discriminating relation towards writing about the ‘others’, finding strategies to avoid the traps of falling into steretypical discourses.

SOCIALLY ENGAGED ART PRACTICE
Workshop in contemporary art
tutor: Andreja Kulunčić (visual artist)

The workshop will explore the phenomenon of socially engaged art. In which way does contemporary art participate in creating a public discourse on the ‘others’ and how can it intervene into hegemonic stereotypical and oppressive discourses? The artist Andreja Kuluncic will thematize these issues from the perspective of her own artistic practice and thematization of the neuralgic spots of our society in general. The emphasis will be placed on developing ideas for individual projects of the participants.

The program of LECTURES involves presentations of initiatives and concepts of engaged work in the media of film, video, design and architecture. Two ROUND TABLES will also be organized, one dealing with the phenomenology of ‘otherness’ from a philosophical and anthropological perspective and the other by problematizing the relation towards the ‘other’ from the perspective of journalism and the mass media.
