Ann Demeester_ Lecture in the framework of Curating Degree Zero Archive_ Friday_October 31,2008 at 7 pm

Ann Demeester is the director of De Appel, Amsterdam. In the framework of Curating Degree Zero Archive in Zagreb Ann will present De Appel’s Curatorial Training Program and reflect on recent international curatorial practice.

De Appel is an internationally oriented arts centre located in Amsterdam. Since 1975 it has functioned as a site for the research and presentation of contemporary visual art through exhibitions, publications and discursive events. De Appel also functions as a platform for performances by visual artists, choreographers and theatre makers.

Since 1994 de Appel has hosted a nine month long Curatorial Programme that offers emerging international curators a condensed package of experiences and skills that can be used as tools for the development of their professional careers. The programme encompasses an array of theoretical seminars, workshops, field trips, assignments and encounters. It has a special thematic ‘context-responsive’ curating and the presentator of art in the ‘public sphere’.
