Open call for the production and exhibition of a new artwork titled Tvornica has been enabling artists to dedicate themselves to creation in stable conditions for almost a decade. The concept emerged as a response to the lack of spatial and financial conditions for realizing artistic works that are not necessarily profitable but are important for experimentation, reflection, and artistic production.
Tvornica 2025 continues the mission of GMK: encouraging artistic creation, production, and exhibition of works that contribute to a vibrant space of free and open dialogue, cultural exchange, and artistic production.
As in previous years, open call is intended for works in progress, ideas, and concepts that are not yet fully realized. Independent artists and artistic collectives are welcome to apply, and it is not necessary to be a member of a professional association.
The selected author/artist through the competition will receive advisory support from the GMK curator in the process of conceptualizing and realizing the work. All gallery resources will be available to them, along with financial support for the production and exhibition of the work as part of the gallery program in December 2025.
The funding for the production and exhibition of the selected work is 3000 €.
GENERAL CONDITIONS OF THE COMPETITION
- The competition is open to artists and other interested individuals who primarily live and work in Zagreb (or can dedicate time to work on the project in Zagreb).
- Each author/artist or collective may submit a maximum of one project.
- The competition is open to everyone, regardless of age, formal education, or previous exhibitions.
THE APPLICATION MUST INCLUDE:

- Address (of one author)
- Curriculum Vitae
- Portfolio
- Phone number or mobile phone (of one author)
- E-mail address (of one author)
2. TEXTUAL AND VISUAL MATERIALS
- A short textual description of the work, the author’s concept, or project (up to 2 pages of text) in PDF format
- Visual material in JPG or PDF format
- A preliminary specification of the costs of the work or project
All visual materials should be archived in .zip format, named author_name_of_work.zip and uploaded via Wetransfer, Jumbomail, or Sendspace, then sent to info@g-mk.hr with the subject “For Open call.” Proposals received after the deadline or with incomplete documentation will not be considered.
The deadline for submitting applications is 30/04/2025 at midnight.
The names of the expert jury will be published later. The author/artist will be notified by email about the outcome of open call one month after the application deadline, and the results will be subsequently published on the gallery’s social media.
