Dance performance
May 22, 8:00 PM, GMK (Šubićeva 29)
Free admission
As part of the 18th Vox Feminae Festival, artist Dora Brkarić at the GMK will present an adaptation of her original dance show STRIPTEASE.
Taking on the role of cam girls, performers Dora Brkarić and Iva Katarinčić carefully direct but also tantalize and play with the viewer’s gaze using their smartphone lights. Although they decide which parts of their bodies to reveal, blinded by the light, they do not know whom they are seducing—the darkness of the gallery space becomes a place of comfort, fantasy, and desire, as well as a space of discomfort and uncertainty.
Through a play of the visible and the invisible, STRIPTEASE expressively explores questions of maidenhood and performance activity, as well as the possibilities of representing bodies and sexuality both in the gallery space and in the virtual world of social media.

Dora Brkarić was born in Pula in 1996. She completed her contemporary dance studies at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb and continued her education in choreography and composition at UNIARTS University in Helsinki and SNDO (School for New Dance Development) in Amsterdam. She collaborates with choreographers such as Simone Aughterloney, Flavia Pinheiro, Matej Kejžar, Sanna Myllylahti, Andrea Božić, Mehdi Farajpour, and others. Through her original work of creating dance shows (STRIPTEASE, SALT, Which football team won a basketball competition), she also produces audio-visual work Life is GREJP and an experimental film an_Hum_an. Dora’s work explores the possibilities of stripping down identities, the expressiveness of the repressed, and levels of presence.
